Colorado Skiing

The United States has many fine skiing areas but none better than the powder snow Colorado skiing resorts. There are excellent facilities and slopes that are suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. The economy of the state is greatly enhanced by winter sports enthusiasts from around the world who enjoy the friendliness of the local people and the beautiful scenery.

The Aspen region is well known as a skiing destination. Aspen Highlands is most suitable for intermediate and expert skiers and has some of the most amazing views from summits. The Hollywood Bowl area provides one of the most challenging areas in Colorado skiing. The Scarlett Run is a mogul, attempted only by the very experienced. Aspen Mountain Ski Resort, on the north side of Aspen Mountain and on Bell Mountain, offers several runs for experts and it's not really appropriate for the novice. The resort is small and has an intimate atmosphere, fostered since its opening in 1946. Snowboarding was not accepted here until 2001.

The Vail Resort is in Eagle County and its 5,289 acres on Vail Mountain make it the largest ski resort in the USA. There are three distinct areas, one for each of the beginning, intermediate and expert ability levels. These include Blue Sky Basin, full of backcountry trails, a mogul, tree skiing and cliffs. In 1982, Vail was the host for the Alpine Skiing World Cup and repeated the honor in the 1990s. This is the best of all worlds in Colorado skiing, containing traditional and forward looking qualities. The quaint village of Vail was inspired by the streets and architecture of a Bavarian village. Since 2006, the resort has been fully powered by wind power.

Copper Mountain, situated in Summit County, is the resort most frequented by locals. The resort is designed for mixed ability and there is a ski school and numerous hotels, bars, restaurants and shops. Visitors like to come in the summer season too, to enjoy the facilities for golf and mountain biking. Another Summit County resort offers the best in Colorado skiing facilities. Breckenridge has a long, 3.5 mile run and first class lifts, including two high speed superchairs for six passengers.

Sunlight Mountain is a popular resort, close to Glenwood Springs. It's a good destination for Colorado skiing on a budget and there are cross country trails and downhill skiing for beginners and the more advanced. Snowboarders are welcome too and there is plenty terrain to challenge them.
