The Bratz Dolls

My daughter knows the rules. She can ask for the Bratz Dolls but she is not going to get them. She already knows this, and she really doesn’t act like she thinks she is going to talk me into it. She doesn’t understand why I have this rule, but she seems to be ok with it. She really doesn’t have a choice though, because I am not buying them for her, and if anyone else does, they are going to be returned or thrown away. Any dolls that even look like the Bratz Dolls will also meet the same fate.

Many might call me a mean mommy but I really don’t care. I do not like the way the Bratz dolls look and I do not want her having them. They are dressed like hookers and they are totally unrealistic. I don’t want my daughter trying to dress like the Bratz dolls and I won’t have them in my house. I realize that this doesn’t mean she won’t try to dress that way when she gets older, but I can keep that influence out of her life for the most part right now.

I know there are other dolls like the Bratz dolls and that I cannot keep them out of her hands forever. She will have friends who have them, but they will not be here. Perhaps this will lead to her asking me why I don’t like them, and I can explain to her what my problem is. I want her to be a strong woman, and I want her to do it on her merit. Dressing and looking like the Bratz dolls will only lead to disappointment for any girl, and this will send out a message that won’t do her much good. There is more to a woman than her body, and you can be sexy without giving up your dignity.

I have to wonder what other parents are thinking when they buy the Bratz dolls for their daughters. They may be harmless, but I really don’t think so. There are thousands of different toys out there that will expand their minds and build knowledge. That in turn will build self-esteem. Perhaps with enough self-esteem the Bratz dolls will be left in the dust. A woman’s true worth is not something you see in her clothes, but rather something you hear when she speaks. I can’t keep all of the bad influences from her life, but I can keep the Bratz dolls out, at least for a little while.
