One of the most troubling things I have heard about recently is nursing home abuse. I guess it makes sense that if there are people out there who are sick enough to hurt children that there are also people out there who might hurt the elderly as well. There are some people who for whatever reason have a lot of rage, and perhaps even an inferiority complex, and they bully those who are weaker than they are. It may be give them a sick sense of superiority, though I’m not really sure what their reasoning may be.
What I do know is that nursing home abuse may be a bigger problem then anyone may realize. I’m sure for every case that is reported or found, there may be three or four that go unnoticed. Some people who are enduring nursing home abuse perhaps have no family to watch over them, or they aren’t able to speak up for themselves. There are people out there who are supposed to be regulating such facilities, but I can bet they are just as overwhelmed as every other human interest group out there.
If you have a loved one in residential care, make sure you watch out for signs that nursing home abuse may be going on with your loved one or with anyone else who stays there as well. Remember not everyone has someone to watch out for them, and you need to keep an eye out if you can. If you see or suspect there is nursing home abuse going on, you must call the authorities immediately. If you find or see evidence of anything, call the police immediately to stop the abuse in its tracks. This is the only way to get the ball rolling. If you can bring publicity to the event, you should do so. This will make sure those who need to be taking care of the problem will do so in a timely fashion.
If you have a loved one that has been the victim of nursing home abuse, you need to contact a lawyer right away to find out what your options are. If anything, you should not have to pay for care that has been obviously below standard and totally unacceptable. You can find a lawyer who may have dealt with nursing home abuse at a time in the past, and they will know exactly what to do and who might be responsible for what has happened to your family.
