Mid-life Crisis

There comes a time in every man's life! So, what do you think should follow that statement? Maybe "When he has to make a choice." Or, I guess it could be "When he has to really grow up." Na, that one doesn't work at all. So far I'm 31 and I still make jokes about everything. Probably not the most grown-up thing to do. Anyway, back to the subject at-hand. What I was going to say is "There comes a time in every man's life when he hits that mid life crisis." Ah ha, I know you didn't want to hear about that. Regardless, this is a topic that must be addressed. And I'm here to tell you about my next door neighbor. He's the perfect subject for this particular discussion. Let's talk age 40!

It seems to all take place when we men hit the "mid-life." For most of us this is the age of 40. After all, 80 is a pretty safe life span to bet on if we die of natural causes. Then again, now days people are living longer due to modern medicine, but that's off the topic. So when men hit this mid life crisis, they tend to go through a few changes. My neighbor was one of these men. He is 42 now and in excellent shape. He's fortunate because he retired early and is now able to spend a portion of his time working out each day. He eats healthy and takes good care of his appearance. Now, here's the mid life crisis kicker. He basically dresses like he's always headed out to a club. Then there's the fact that he hangs around at our community pool every day during the summer months to chat with high school girls. Hmm, this is odd, and clearly an issue. Now, don't take this the wrong way. I perfectly understand the concept of a mid life crisis, but reverting back to the high school years is no solution, and it could get him thrown in jail. Most of us don't look kindly upon 42 year old men hitting on high school girls. It's eerie and disgusting.

There has to be a better way! Surely you can tackle a mid life crisis how ever you please, but some ways are better than others. For example, getting older doesn't mean that you suddenly ditch your wife of 20 years. This is lame! 40 and 50 year old men DO NOT belong with 20 year old women. It's gross and they have nothing in common. Find a positive way to deal with your mid life crisis. Traveling, for instance, is always an exciting one.
