What is the difference between regular sales and medical sales? You wonder why I ask that. Well the truth of the matter is that of late a number of reports have been appearing in local newspapers and magazines questioning the tactics being used by medical companies and pharmaceutical giants in their selling activities. The crux of the matter seems to lie in the adoption of general marketing and sales tactics by these companies to peddle their products and services. Some people seem to think that such strategies do not behoove companies that are in the business of healthcare provision. While other (mostly from the healthcare sector) seem to find nothing wrong with using tried and tested tactics to enhance sales and grow profits.

This has for long been the point of contention even within the medical industry. When it comes to sales as a genre, anything that results in padding up the bottom line seems to attract a lot of praise. But speak about medical sales and the motives are suddenly questioned. While all of us have a right to be concerned about the rising costs of medical care and health care, attributing them all to the fact that medical sales is aggressive seems a little over stretched.

Why has medical sales attracted such bad publicity in all the nations of the world? Well, the answer to that can be found in the pharmaceutical companies, especially in what has come to be known as the first world. The increasing cost of research and development and the millions of dollars being spent in discovering new drugs and pharmaceuticals has ensured that these companies try and indulge in aggressive sales in order to match the cost of generation and production of the aforementioned drugs. One way of looking at this is that these companies invest a lot and are merely looking for a way in which they can recover or recoup their investment. Another way of looking at it is that in order to justify their massive research and development costs, they are palming off the costs to the end consumers.

Be that as it may, the fact remains that medical sales is a way of life with the larger companies in the market. There is no way that we are going to be able to do away with medical sales as we know it. But then, the cry from those who oppose it has been increasing and soon, the din may overcome any profit motive. But until that time comes to pass, medical sales will only continue to grow from strength to strength.
