Ladies dresses

Ladies dresses are one of the more favored shopping objectives for women going to the mall. Women generally love to shop and they love clothes, so this should come as no surprise. What's the particular attraction of dresses? Why do we never have too many ladies dresses? There are several reasons, some bordering on instinctual and stretching back over thousands of years. Women have always adorned themselves with necklaces, bracelets and shoes to appear attractive and alluring to members of the opposite sex. It's the dress that offers the most possibilities for a feminine and stylish image. Which is what makes us different.

Styles and hemlines change often enough to keep us looking for a fresh take on our femininity. Those dress designers surely don't let us down when it comes to variety!

If you look at a book describing and illustrating clothing styles over hundreds of years, you'll see that a sleeve is not just a sleeve. There are dozens of cuts that may be called a sleeve. In Renaissance times, the bodices of ladies dresses were tightly fitted to show a woman's curves to best advantage, often with lace inserts offering modesty and seductiveness in one fell swoop.

During the 1940's, elegantly tailored ladies dresses tended to be form fitting, again, to flatter a shapely curve and often featured sequined, embroidered or beaded accents in highly refined designs. In the 1960's and 1970's, the mini dress was the only ladies dress to be worn, if you were young and shapely. When women finally tired of the short look, along came the midi dress. This new take on ladies dresses featured a hemline halfway between knees and ankles. You've got to keep those men guessing!

We poor women can hardly be blamed for our attachment to this essential wardrobe item, especially today. In no other period of history has there been the variety of fabrics we have today. Many of these are synthetic wonders, easy to maintain and glorious to look upon. Technology has advanced so much in the textile industry, that almost everyone can afford fabrics once reserved for the wealthy pocketbook.

For example, fake furs can now be mass-produced in stunningly realistic looks on convenient 54” rolls. It just takes a small amount to trim a ladies dress. Fabrics are now mass produced which look and feel almost exactly like suede leather and are washable, making suede ladies dresses a practical buy and elegant addition to your wardrobe.

Your collection of ladies dresses must take into account the season. Frilly, full skirted dresses are springtime favorites. Along comes summer and you're looking for sun dresses and spaghetti-style straps in lightweight fabrics to keep you comfortable in the heat. Chilly fall weather brings out darker colors and warmer fabrics. Come winter, you've got holidays and special events requiring sparkling and sophisticated looks. If those designers would stop with the style changes, we might be happy with our collection of ladies dresses. Or would we?
